I watched this on DVD at home last week. It was a rainy, cool day in Charleston. I figured in my bed would be an appropriate spot to indulge in a little cinematic escapism. But by the time I approached the thirtieth minute in this subversive, taxing, and entertaining flick, I realized my own life, with all its trials and tribulations, was much more comfortable, and digestible, than this 2006 film directed by Todd Field. To be sure, Little Children is a well written and competently stylized adaptation of Tom Perotta’s novel, but by its finish I was up and outside, ambling through puddles, mumbling thanks that my life was not as warped as the ones depicted here. If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, wait for the next rainy day. And then go give thanks to your perfect existence. At any rate, below are the film’s reviews and background information, as well as its trailer.
