Monday’s Body of Work

June 15, 2009

Ambulance in Dark Sky Magazine

Wow. Monday again. And it was one of those weekends. You know, the kind that almost makes you happy to be back at work. Speaking of work, there’s plenty to do, and more to read. So we’ll keep today’s roundup succinct. An interesting book is taking the UK by storm. It’s written by an ambulance driver who turns a critical lens on his safeguarding profession. Also across the pond the British poet laureate gives an impromptu reading and everyone is very, very happy. Here in the US, media types are talking economics, or the withering state of our Union. The stories are bleak, but necessary, good reads. More good reading awaits in Blake Bailey. He is one of our favorite contemporary biographers. There’s a Q & A with him in Intelligent Life. Read it. Finally, an (in)famous Berkeley bookstore closes its doors and the Kindle has competition. — Kevin Murphy
