A Poem by Nate Beyer
A feather fallen from the forehead,
A name forgotten. The face of a person
Passed in the street, the lips and eyes
Faded, only the swell of the breast,
A rise around the waist remembered.

History was made last night. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the 1991 Super Tecmo Bowl Super Champions! Vinny Testaverde and Mark Carrier took out the Bills 23-14, even after an ill-advised TB punt on the Bills’ 16 in the waning minutes. Of course, if you remember your NFL history, it wasn’t hard to beat Buffalo in the Super Bowl in 1991. Pretty much everyone was doing it around then. In the process, we discovered a little history about our fearless leader, Kevin Murphy. There was a Kevin Murphy linebacker for the ’91 Bucs. Is this the same Kevin Murphy of DSM? Murphy, please advise.
We continue down history’s path this Thursday with Rebecca Brown’s evocation of Hawthorne’s literary blues. Like most mid-century leftists, Ignazio Silone had his conflicting ideological battles. Marion Wallace-Dunlop was the modern hunger-striking artist. We get some more personal history from Junot Diaz, who is probably tired of talking about immigrating. Go to Colombia to get the history of cocaine. In all likelihood you missed the article on John Dillinger’s death, which happened yesterday, less 75 years. Go Bucs! – Andrew Geer
